My Stimulus and Further Research

My piece has the stimulus of the glam jail image from blog 1. Of course this peice had my mind racing with alot of different creative thoughts, however the one idea I kept bringing myself back to, was the idea of the square box around the person, that was trapping and isolating them from the rest of the world. Not only do I think this has its literal meaning of being in jail and being locked in the confined square room, but also the metaphorical meaning of feeling lost and trapped inside yourself, so even if you are putting on a mask and acting glamorous, your feeling inside could be the complete contrast, and perhaps you could even feel nothing? Another reason for the character feeling trapped is because on social media, people try and portray everything as perfect, content and idealistic however these emotions are rarely true to how someone is actually feeling and i really wanted to convey to the audience that this can be how social media can possess someone's mind, until they b...

Choreographic Devices- Practitioner Study

So in class we were given 3 categories, a ction, Space and Dynamics and we had to choose words for each section that we felt linked back to our stimulus and theme of our piece. For example we came up with ripple, and continuous, then isolations and sharp, and the reason we chose these is because our peice is very contrasting and includes some very sharp and dynamic movements to represent the confidence in the character and then some more sedate and lethargic movements perhaps performed more fluidly to emphasise the more hurt and concealed side to the character. I then further experimented with this and created some movements using the words I had thought of and therefore made a little sequence in my own time, trying to incorporate these words into movements that followed each other smoothly. I did some rippling motions and some sharper motions, so that i can emphasise the contrast in both feelings, and possibly implement that into the choreography I will create. I also used a range of ...

A Critique of Justin Pecks “In The Countenance of Kings”

Image
When I first watched this piece the overall theme that I felt was portrayed, is the idea of normal life, and I think the dancers represented pedestrians, so all of the repetitive motions highlighted the repetitive and sometimes tedious parts of life. For example when we have daily routines including things like brushing teeth, showering, eating, and sleeping ect, they can sometimes feel like chores to complete, yet they are so simple and we still do it every single day.  Because of this, the piece made me feel ordinary, and involved, as I thought that the little signals of repetitions and every day life provided a sense of inclusivity to all people and privileges. Thus showing really we are all the same, we are all doing similar things, we are all loved.  Another reason I felt this infusion of everyday life was the dog at the beginning and the fact that every dancer in the video is wearing trainers. This again emphasises the feeling of common occurrences and what we know as e...
